We have just the place to get away and just breathe again! The Farm Cottage, built in 1950, is on 35 acres, part of a homestead that was established in 1884. It was known in the area as the Turnbull Settlement because Sagle didn't exist yet. In fact, Idaho didn't become a state until 1907. Thomas Turnbull Jr. was the original homesteader and the property passed to his son, Harpster. We bought it from the Harpster Turnbull estate. From the old fashioned farm kitchen with the original kitchen stove, cast iron country sink and red formica countertops to the original wood floors in the living room to the retro decor touches in the basement rec room, this charming home is perfect for family vacations. Pets are welcome including horses. Guests have access to the outdoor arena and round pen and riding opportunities. 35 acres are yours to explore. The parklike land is home to birds, waterfowl, wild turkeys, deer and elk. The home is situated on a rise with views of North Idaho farm land, forests and mountains, including a view of famous Mt. The cottage is located almost at the end of a good county maintained road about 10 miles from Sandpoint and only 3 miles off Hwy. 95 but is almost totally private. Sandpoint offers many wonderful restaurants and other entertainment activities including City Beach, a farmer's market on Wednedays and Saturdays and many unique shops. Mt. Schweitzer shuttle lot is about 20 minutes away and Silverwood amusement park is about 30 minutes south. Fishing and boating are available as close as 5 miles away and of course Lake Pend O'Reille is just down the road. A stay at the Cottage would be perfect for Sandpoint's annual Lost in the 50's Car show and concert in May or the Festival at Sandpoint in August which features some of the country's best musical acts. I have a nicely decorated, clean, one bedroom cabin (550 sq ft) in 12 acres of forest far away from the hustle and noise of modern life. The cabin offers a queen bed in a small bedroom; a sleeper sofa; and a loft with a queen blow-up mattress, that kids might enjoy sleeping with queen bedding for a total of three places to sleep. In addition, there are ample linens, necessary kitchen amenities, dishes, wine and martini glasses, etc. and a washer and dryer. Unplug from it all and relax in the peace of your own forest. Unwind with a good book and take a contemplative walk in the forest or nearby trail, about 5 minutes walking from the cabin. Watch the deer walk by, make a puzzle, play cards or a game of horseshoes, have fun on the tree swing and pop into the old fashioned outhouse, if necessary. Don't worry the cabin has plumbing, hot water, a toilet and a shower! (It is a small bathroom with a low ceiling.) There is no T.V., phone or internet and the cell reception is spotty. Most likely you would have to walk up the hill one block to get cell reception. More action oriented, no problem. Head about two miles down to Lake Pend Oreille at Talache Landing for a swim from the small beach or to launch your canoe or kayak. Mirror Lake, a small lake, is also about two miles away for swimming and boating. Launch your own boat or rent their boats or paddle boats for $20 a day. There is easy parking on the property with lots of room for your toys (boat, ATVs’ motorcycles, etc.). Bring your saw and fall a dying tree, if you like. Afterwards light a campfire in front of the cabin and roast your hotdogs and marshmallows! Head into Sandpoint for good restaurants, a beach walk, lake cruise, horseback riding, boat and bike rentals and nearby hiking and surrounding area. Return to the cabin after playing and enjoy the quiet and serenity of country living in your own beautiful restful retreat. **Two miles of dirt road, past a couple of unsightly, junk car infested neighbors’ to the cabin.
